The files you provide were just what I was looking for.
But in some cases is worth add some noises, (i.e to create a grain effect)
Gimp has already several filter to add noise (in Filter/noise ) anyway this i more flexible and has more option then usual.
Images are more clear then words, check the html file inside for examples
