The GAP install gives me two folders, "lib" and "share".
Copied and pasted contents of "lib" to equivalent folder in GIMP. YAY! Video tab shows up in the program.

Started to do the same thing with the contents of the share folder. within in it there's a subdirectory, "GAP.2.6_win\share\locale\" and within in it a bunch more subdirectories that occur in the GIMP program files also. This seems as though a lot of work copying & pasting. I did notice however that the one file that is present within each of these folders has the same filename. Is it the exact same file? Can I just copy one and past into all the necessary subdirectories in GIMP?

My computer seems to evade me when it comes to installations.
According to the procedure, it's installed more than once now (As I've retried and gotten the message that it's been installed) but it continues to tell me that 'This file may have installed incorrectly'
I've clicked on the 'download file' to the right here, followed the procedure, and it still has not been found on my computer. I've searched my whole desktop, but the program won't show up.
Any suggestions?

On Windows 7 64-bit with GIMP 2.8.2 installed, I followed "Method 2" of the instructions at [link] ("How to install GAP (GIMP Animation Package) on GIMP 2.8 in Windows 64 bit"). As therein mentioned, a 64bit version of GIMP-GAP for windows can be found via [link] ("GAP-2.6 (windows binary)", see section "G.A.P. Binaries Gimp 64 bits Windows").

The short version of the above mentioned "Method 2" of said instructions is to simply copy the contents of the downloaded "gimp-gap-2.6.0-64bits.ZIP\gimp-gap-2.6.0-64bits\plug-ins" folder into "C:\Users\<your Windows user name>\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins" folder. Launch GIMP after that and you should find a "Video" tab between the "Filters" and "Windows" menu items of the GIMP 2.8.2 main menu bar.

On a side note, the GIMP 2.8.2 installer (which installed by default in "C:\Program Files\GIMP 2") automatically uninstalled my previously installed GIMP 2.6.11 (which was installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\GIMP-2.0") (NOTE: 32-bit 2.6.11 was removed by 64-bit 2.8.2 installer despite separate being in separate folders), as is discussed at [link] ("Install 2.8 alongside 2.6 in windows").

I am looking for said download link in the 'GAP-2.6 (Windows binary' but cannot see an option for a 64 bit windows download. All I can see is a windows xp-vista download. There is a comment that links to some for of 64 bit download but it just takes you to a french page about Quebec... is there any other way of getting to this download, because I am completely unable to download GAP at the present.

I'm not sure if you're still interested in this but if you are, you can find a package (by the name "GIMP Extensions") that is supposed to include the 64-bit version of GAP-2.6.0 at this URL: code.google.com/p/gimp-extensi…. If you don't want the other extensions included in the package you can just deselect them in the installer. As mentioned on the aforementioned site, the package is also hosted on various other sites (e.g. on CNET at download.cnet.com/GIMP-Extensi… so you should have no problem downloading it this time!

This installation is for GIMP 2.6 not GIMP 2.8

Read the Instructions in the README.txt file for a better understanding of the installation. Basically, the files go in the plugins directory.

But is GAP free? Or do you have to pay for it?

DEVIANT ART ADDS "http:" in front of link's "ftp:"

You need to cut-and-paste the actual "ftp:" URL to get the real link. A bit tricky.

This doesn't seem to work for me. I opened the GIMP GAP Setup and when prompted to choose a file to add the files to, I selected the folder Dean1960 had suggested. I restarted GIMP and refreshed scripts, but the Video option wasn't there. And when I opened the file location where the installer had supposedly placed the files, they were not there. I don't know why? Also, I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. Though, I did manage to get it to work. If you're in my situation, try this:

Download the binaries for GAP Binaries GIMP 64 Bits Windows: [link] (I found this on [link])

Open gimp-gap-2.6.0-64bits.zip > gimp-gap-2.6.0-64bits > plug-ins

In another window, open Computer > C: > Users > (The correct user in which you are installing GIMP and GAP) > .gimp-2.8 > plug-ins
Note: This is not the same folder found in Program Files > GIMP 2. Click USERS, not PROGRAM FILES.

Copy the plug-in files from the gap-2.6.0-64bits folder and paste them in the .gimp-2.8 > plug-ins folder.

never mind.i went to youtube to find something and found a video that i watched and tried & it worked.
ok for those with gimp 2.8 do the following.

download the file.
then once downloaded a box will open up.mine is set to windows explorer.
then u click the ok button.
another box will open with the zip files to be extracted.
only one u need to extract is the one named GAP-installer.
click that one then it'll open up the installer file.
click extract all files.
then another box will open with the application file.
click that then follow the instructions.then when it gets to the destination folder do the following:

go to program files folder
then look for folder named Gimp 2
choose that folder then click ok button on bottom.it'll install the file.
if u have gimp open close & reopen.
Video should be listed on top.
I did this from the video i watched & it worked.
hope everyone has luck with this.cause it worked for me.

I did everything you said and there isn't a "video" button on my gimp. The only difference is that i'm using Gimp 2.6, not 2.8. Do i need to wait a while or have i made a mistake? i don't know :(

I got it to work in Gimp 2.8.

Just extract the zip file to a blank folder on your desktop. Then copy all those files in that folder to:

C:/user/yourname/.gimp2.8/plugins/copy files here!

Please note it is".gimp2.8" as in ("dot"gimp2.8)

Then run Gimp and you should see a new menu item called "video". You will need to have a picture loaded in order for the long list of menu items under "video" to be active.

Hope this helps!!

OOPS!!!!!!

PLEASE READ!!!!

Above I said "extract" the zip file. What I meant to say is to run the "installer" and install into a blank folder on your desktop!!! So:

1. extract the zip file to a folder
2. run installer from unzipped files to a blank folder on your desktop. Then copy all the installed files to:

C:/user/yourname/.gimp2.8/plugins/copy files here!

I did the exact same thing you did and i didn't see any VIDEO option on my Gimp 2.8 when i started it, I extracted to my desktop and used the installer to put all the data on my desktop. Then i just moved the file folders into the Plug in folder in USERS/.GIMP2.8 etc etc

I'm not quite understanding how to install GAP. I get to the installer and click through and then it doesn't autopopulate with a destination folder. I've tried manually installing it in both my program files folder - where GIMP seems to be - and my program files (x86) folder. When I open GIMP, however, I am not seeing anything different either way.
Is there some way I am supposed to activate it?
Pardon my ignorance. I am new to GIMP completely.
