Is a slightly modified version of the original source code, difference is on the preview that with this code works but in the original was disabled

first this is a plugin not a script, then is Source code the windows binary is here [link]

And there the image should clear what does: allow to modify the Dynamic Range of the image

Not exactly how Level or Curve filters but may be used for similar reason
